With Tyler Shield’s new exhibition, ‘Beyond the Gates’ being held just six months after his last, at the same gallery as last time, Imitate Modern in Mayfair, I am wondering what new delights Mr. Shields is bringing to the capital.
Last time Tyler Shields work came to London, Think Work Play were less than impressed with his array of celebrity portraits, so obviously aimed to shock that they in fact did the opposite. I personally have seen enough photographs of a knife-wielding, semi-clad Lindsay Lohan, to last me a lifetime.
The show has been influenced heavily by Shield’s new girlfriend and muse Francesca Eastwood (daughter of Clint, Hollywood actor and director, of course), and so the focus is perhaps less dramatic, and more romantic than his previous work. There is no questioning that Shields has done well. At just 29 he has been included in GQ’s ‘100 Best Things in the World’ list, listed as Lohan’s ‘favorite photographer’, and he’s going out with Dirty Harry’s daughter. Shields must be doing something right.
Tyler Shield: Beyond the Gates is on at Imitate Modern Gallery from 23rd February – 19th March 2012
